Happy New Year...

The year of desperation, distraction and harassment is about to end. We are now faced with new challenges and responsibilities especially being bonafide Nurses. Let us accept the fact that we are currently out of action but we will not stop, hoping that this year would be a better year for us. We must unite and help each other to bring advantage in our side. It is not important how much benefit it would bring us, but rather how much benefit it could bring others. And the most important of all, is yield to our ALMIGHTY…

Have a Wonderful and Fruitful New Year…

IV Therapy Training...

An ever-increasing trend in Philippine nursing... Is it caused by the growing need for Renal Nurses, a contemporary hospital requirement, a competence update, or just merely boredom... Anyway, for whatever reason it is, it is best to get through with it.

What you need to do, is to apply for an IV Therapy Training in any institution accredited by ANSAP as a training facility. Well, to name a few in Davao, there is:

  • SPMC (Southern Philippines Medical Center) - where most of the IV Therapist in Davao had undergone training.
  • DMSF (Davao Medical School Foundation) - only if you're already working or training in other medical establishments, where you will accomplish your Intra-Venous case requirements.

And a lot more, from other places in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao… you may search the net or ANSAP website for the list of other accredited training resources all over the Philippines.

I’d advise you to review your anatomy, especially peripheral vein locations or IV Access – Anatomy, your IV flow rate and IVTT drug administration computation, and blood transfusion process. You may search the net for actual videos and thoroughly process and retain the information by heart, for there might be a test on your knowledge, it is better to come prepared.

Nurses to Japan...

Out of 92 nurses that were sent to Japan under the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA) program, only one Filipino nurse passed the Japanese nurse licensure examination, this was due to the failure of the other Filipino nurses to thoroughly learn the Japanese native language... The Japanese nurse licensure examination is given entirely in Nihongo.

Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) have met, to discuss ways to help Filipino nurses, pass the JNLE...

Now, JPEPA is giving Filipino nurses, three chances to take and pass Japan’s nurse licensure examination.

Japan is currently looking to hire Filipino nurses to attend to its aging population, where nursing shortage is nearly unavoidable...

Well I've got good news for you...

I remember, when Filipino entertainers went back and forth to Japan and were branded as "Japayuki". Some took it negatively for they were labeled like prostitutes. Labeled by judgmental people, people who are mentally deranged, who feels superior from what they see and believe as other peoples weakness... I'm sorry about that, I got carried away.

Anyway, going back to the subject, now is the chance for a new breed of "Japayukis" to emerge... I have read this news and want to share them to you...

Yokohama (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN) - Soon, Filipinos planning to work in Japan as nurses and caregivers might just find entering this country a walk in the park.

Philippine Charge d'Affaires Belen Anota said efforts were on-going between the Philippines and Japan to ensure that Filipino nurses and caregivers would be able to hurdle tough entry exams.

300,000 Filipinos in Japan

This was brought about by the desire of both Manila and Tokyo to bring in more highly skilled workers in this country where 300,000 Filipinos are now living and working, according to Anota.

Noting that before, mostly entertainers comprised the Filipino workforce here, now there are more teachers in universities, engineers and architects.

"Now there are serious talks between the two countries on how to ensure Filipino nurses and caregivers will be able to pass their exams," Anota said.

Just recently Japan sent officials to talk with the Department of Foreign Affairs, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for this purpose, she said.

Bilateral talks

Anota said this was a result of bilateral talks between President Benigno Aquino III and Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in Vietnam last month.

Anota said that the two leaders talked about how to improve working and living conditions of Filipinos based here.

I hope that this plan will push through for this will be very beneficial to every Filipinos...

You do not need to face exams alone...

I saw this from another page. I just want to share them to you, for this is close to what I did when I took the July NLE 2010. I believe this will work...

God can help you. Search for Him. He can be a friend to you.

HOW TO GET THROUGH EXAMS

Here are 10 top tips by educational psychologists:

  1. Get help: ask a teacher or tutor or people who had taken and passed the exam, about how to review, the exam skills - how to work when you are in an exam.
  2. Take short rests during your time of work and revision. If your mind is tired, it will not remember well.
  3. Plan your work: review at times when you know you will work at your best.
  4. Stay healthy: get enough sleep, eat sensibly.
  5. Exercise: you need exercise to work well. Walk, run, play sport - whatever you enjoy.
  6. Be positive: stop thinking about the future and failing.
  7. Do your best: no-one can do more than this.
  8. Be alert: if you feel ill, talk to someone about your worries.
  9. But don't be too relaxed! Some stress over exams makes you work hard for them.
  10. Be sensible: if it upsets you to talk to your friends about an exam when it is finished, don't do it! In fact, don't even think about the exam you have finished. What is done is done. You cannot change what you have written!

If you are studying in the evening, don't go straight to bed afterwards. Your mind will still be 'going round and round' - thinking too much. Do something else, maybe walk or get exercise. Choose something that will relax you, and make you think of other things.

I hope this helps...

God bless and Congratulations in advance to all December - NLE Takers!!!

Opportunity for Region XI Nurses...

“There is a continuing demand of nurses abroad but Philippines has been producing so much that both local and foreign employment can afford.”

This pushed DOLE to assist unemployed nurses by way of allowing them to form cooperatives and manage nurses’ clinics under the supervision of trained and experienced nurses.

Region XI was chosen to pilot this project getting support from local government units, the Department of Health, Board of Nursing-Professional Regulation Commission, University of the Philippines College of Nursing, Philippine Nurses Association and others.

This P1.2 million project grants P300,000 per cooperative per province in the region. There shall be at least 500 members per cooperative for a city and at least 1,000 members for province.

The grant may be used to get the home health care business started. For the first semester of 2010, only 5 cooperatives in the pilot region will be assisted with the grant.

Local government units may also take advantage of this project by tapping members of the cooperative to be deployed in far-flung barangays where they can perform both as health educator and health care provider and will be compensated for their services by the local government or by the sponsoring organization.

Roque admitted that the project is yet on its early phase and still needs establishment of mechanisms by supporting agencies.

However, the nursing sector represented by the Philippine Nursing Association takes the project as the answer to the problems in the industry.
This has opened a new window to the unemployed in the nursing sector.

What do you guys think? This project has been piloted in our region, I see this as an opportunity. Post your comments or if you are interested please click this link...

Up-coming IVT Training...

There is an up-coming IVT (Intra-Venous Therapist) training...
if you want to find out about the details, click the like button and the
follow button at the left bottom of this page, register, then i will e-mail the details...

Hehe thanks for the like... I'd rather not e-mail them to you for pretty obvious reasons. instead i'd write the details here...

As we all know, these kind of trainings have come to its limit. There is a very huge pile of newly registered nurses, in various hospitals that offer them, waiting eagerly and hoping for their turn. It is the most favorable competency for entry nurses, but ironically, with very limited access . I wish that the government or organizations in charge of these would do something about it...

Here are the details...

Nov 15, 2010
Mindano Medical Center
General Santos City
3 days training

If i find more info in different institutions, I'd post them here... so keep posted

Calling all unemployed and fresh nurses...

What will happen next...

Just recently...

My wife cried with joy as she had found out that I passed the board exam in July 2010. I'm sure that this emotion serves no-match, compared to the emotions felt by the parents of the thousand students who passed the nursing board exam. Finally an end to all school related avocation (a plunge into a pool of sufferings) , projects, requirements, related learning experiences, expensive tuition fees. Im so glad it came to an end...

Now faced with reality...

I have been to hospitals tertiary and secondary, here and with-in the perimeters of davao city, only to find out the humongous pending nurse trainee and nurse application in these institutions. I was told that applications for nurses or nurse trainee alike are currently discouraged due to the number of pending applications from the other previous nurse applicants. Sad to say... theres no room for us... in the hospitals at the moment.

The purpose...

Is there nothing we can do, but wait? Is this all we have prepared ourselves for so many years and get nothing from it? Must we, be discouraged? Considering my age, i think i should be... but i would be putting an end to my craft, capabilities, purpose and life. If we sit and wait for something to happen, chances are it might not happen.

Let's do something about this... I'm calling all nurses in Davao City experiencing similar fate, let us change the course, let us give meaning to our lives, let's help each other, let's talk...

please post your suggestions... and make a difference
